This is just a case study about metaphor design. How practical is this concept? I¡¯m not sure.
A mantis is very different thing from a lamp. But they have a similar character.

Mantis Lamp

This lamp is instinctive design and makes natural things of its motive. The front legs of the mantis can spread and fold so they are suitable for catching their feed easily.

Lamp also has construction that can spread and fold and it has not only perfect function as a lamp but also more active and free movement, and it takes shape of a praying mantis naturally.
